A/C makes temps climb: what is normal and what is not

A/C adds heat in front of the radiator, weak fans show up fast.

When to use this guide: Temps rise mainly when A/C is on.

Overview

A small temp rise with the A/C on is normal, the condenser sits in front of the radiator and adds heat. But if the gauge climbs noticeably, the fans aren't keeping up with the added load. A fan clutch that barely passes the basic test will fail the moment the A/C comes on. That's usually the first sign the clutch needs to be replaced.
